Ten minutes later, the captain’s voice came over the intercom: “Due to a technical malfunction, we must make an unscheduled landing in Geneva.”

The man, now visibly anxious, asked to use the restroom once more. But this time, two security officers were already waiting in the aisle, having been pre-alerted by the crew.

As the officers escorted him off the plane, he shouted:

— “You don’t understand! This is my son! I have papers!”

But the papers were forged.

On the ground, police and a child protection officer were ready and waiting. When they gently asked the boy if he knew the man, he shook his head and began to sob uncontrollably. It was later discovered that the boy had been kidnapped weeks earlier from another country.
