I Cared for My Mother Through Her Illness—But She Valued My Sister’s Money More Than My Sacrifice

When Mom Got Sick

My mother had two daughters.

Nora was the successful one, at least in Mom’s eyes. She had a good job, a neat apartment downtown, and the kind of life people praised at family gatherings.

And then there was me.

So when Mom fell seriously ill, I didn’t hesitate.

I put my own life on hold.

I told myself it was temporary. I told myself love wasn’t supposed to keep score.

But I didn’t realize someone else already was.

The Words That Broke Me

After almost a year, Mom slowly recovered.

She was walking again. Her appetite came back. She began watering her roses and complaining about the neighbors like she used to.
