Guests screamed.
Some rushed toward the exits. Others froze where they stood. And then, directly above the place where the bride and groom had been standing only seconds earlier, part of the old church dome collapsed.
Stone, dust, and broken debris rained down in an instant.
Panic swept through the church. Some people cried, some ran, and others simply stood there in shock, unable to process what had just happened.
And the bride stood safely off to the side, clutching her dress while the dog still held the fabric between its teeth. The dog was panting heavily now, but it had stopped barking.
It only looked up at her.
That was when everyone understood. A powerful earthquake had struck. Later reports revealed that many people in other places had been injured, buildings had fallen, and others had been trapped under the rubble.
If the dog had not reacted when it did, the bride and groom would have remained standing beneath the dome.
They might not have survived. So that day was remembered not simply as a wedding day—
but as the day a dog saved two lives.
