Just hours before their world would change, the family was enjoying a short trip filled with laughter and energy. For Sammy and Jordan Knowles, a February weekend getaway to Blackpool was meant to be a brief escape and a chance to make new memories with their 4-year-old son, Jaxon.
He was their miracle child, their only child, born after seven years of IVF treatments and three heartbreaking miscarriages. Every moment with him felt like a gift, and they often went out of their way to make his childhood magical, from elaborate birthday celebrations to a recent trip to Lapland for Christmas.
During that weekend, Jaxon was full of life. He spent hours splashing in the hotel pool, leaping into the water with fearless energy, and making his family laugh as he “acted like a lunatic,” his mother, Sammy, recalled.
On Sunday, February 16, 2025, the family packed up to head home, joined by Jaxon’s uncle and a family friend.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until the ride home, when Jaxon quietly mentioned that his arm hurt. By the time they arrived back at their house around 6 p.m., the little boy had also started to complain of a mild stomach ache.
He asked if he could sleep in his mother’s bed, something he often did whenever he felt under the weather.
Sammy gave him a dose of Calpol to ease his fever and encouraged him to drink fluids. That night, she stayed close to her son, checking on him as he slept in her bed.
His temperature hovered slightly above normal, but Calpol kept it in check.
