From within emerged a writhing dark creature. It wasn’t a chick. It was a baby snake.
He barely had time to recoil when a menacing hiss came from the darkness. From under the boards slithered out a full-grown snake — thick, long, with glistening scales. It suddenly raised its head, opened its mouth wide, and lunged at the man.
Terrified, the old man nearly dropped his flashlight. He swung the shovel and ran without thinking. His heart pounded so hard it felt like it would burst out of his chest.
Reaching his neighbors’ house, he called emergency services. When the specialists arrived, they could hardly believe their eyes: under the porch there was indeed a huge snake’s nest, hundreds of eggs, and several adult snakes. Under the porch it was warm and damp, which is why the snakes had laid their eggs there.
The area was cleared, the snakes removed, and the man was strictly forbidden from approaching his house until the site had been fully treated.
