This wasn’t tradition. It was convenience wrapped in pride, praised endlessly as authenticity. I suddenly understood why no one was ever allowed in the kitchen while the pie was made—and why every slice tasted identical year after year.

I quietly dropped the packet back into the trash and went inside without saying a word. There was no satisfaction in exposing it, no triumph waiting on the other side of confrontation. What lingered instead was clarity.
