“He doesn’t care about me! He never did!” My daughter was heartbroken when my ex-husband chose a Disney trip with his stepdaughters over her dance recitaI. So, I decided to give him a reality check via social media, resulting in a viral post that sent shockwaves through our community.
When Owen left me and our seven-year-old daughter, Willow, for his coworker Ellis, it was like my world shattered into a million pieces.
It’s been almost a year since that day, but the sting of his betrayal still lingers, especially for Willow.
She’s always been a daddy’s girl, and losing his attention hit her hard.
Now, Willow’s found a new passion: dance. She’s been working tirelessly in her dance classes, practicing every spare moment she gets. She’s preparing for a solo performance at her school’s recital, and I can see how much it means to her.
Owen promised he’d come, and for the first time in a long time, I saw a spark of pure joy in Willow’s eyes.
I’ve watched her practice and I can see that every twirl and leap is infused with happiness.
It means the world to her that her dad will be there, watching and cheering her on.
But of course, promises are easy to make and easier to break. The day before the recital, Owen called.
“Hi Will, how are you doing?” he asked in that annoyingly casual tone he always used.
Willow’s eyes lit up, and she started talking a mile a minute about her dance, the costume, how excited she was. But then he interrupted her.
“Sorry, sweetie, but I have bad news.
I can’t go to your dance recital,” he said. I watched Willow freeze, her face falling as the words sank in.
“What? But you promised!” she said, her voice small and shaky.
“I know, but I’m taking Ellis and the girls to Disney World, and it’s the only time we could get the tickets,” Owen explained.
“I’ll catch the next one, I promise.”
Willow didn’t say anything after that. She just stood there, the phone slipping from her fingers as tears welled up in her eyes.
I couldn’t believe he did this to her again.
I grabbed the phone before it could fall and guided Willow to the sofa.
“Owen, how could you?” I snapped at the phone. But he had already hung up. Typical.
Always taking the easy way out.
Willow ran to her room, slamming the door behind her. I followed her, my heart breaking at the sound of her sobs. I knocked softly.
The story doesn’t end here — it continues on the next page.
